About Us

Movement for the Emancipation of Vulnerable-SL

Who we are

Non Governmental Organization (NGO) that is committed to supporting Sierra Leone’s most vulnerable populations, including children, women, adolescents, and people with disabilities. We aim to foster resilient, empowered communities by addressing socio-economic challenges and helping vulnerable individuals gain independence, confidence, and opportunity. Established with a deep-rooted commitment to social justice and community empowerment, MEV-SL is actively working in the Western Area, Kenema, and Kailahun districts, with a vision to expand our services nationwide.

The Movement for the Emancipation of Vulnerable-Sierra Leone (MEV-SL) was inspired by a heartfelt vision in 2018, led by Executive Director, Madam Fatmata Komba. Having experienced first-hand the struggles of growing up without adequate resources for education, living with a family who barely had food to eat, lived in a community where the lives of people were deprived, Madam Komba and her team felt called to alleviate the hardships faced by vulnerable children, women and other set of marginalized persons across Sierra Leone. Through MEV-SL, we aim to provide essential educational Agricultural resources, food, and a safer environment for these people.

Through strategic partnerships and community-centered approaches, we deliver impactful programs that address education, livelihood support, health, sanitation, and advocacy for basic human rights.

Corporate Philosophy

MEV-SL operates with a structured management team and robust Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) systems, which ensure transparency and accountability in all its initiatives. This approach not only builds trust with donors but also allows for continuous improvement across programs.

Youth Empowerment and Social Inclusion

MEV-SL is committed to empowering youths, especially young women, through education, training, and protective services. Recognizing the additional challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, MEV-SL promotes inclusion and equality to support their integration into society.

Impact Measurement and Reporting

MEV-SL is dedicated to tracking its progress and measuring its impact through a comprehensive Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) framework. The M&E team conducts regular assessments of each program to determine effectiveness and areas for improvement. All reports are transparently shared with donors, stakeholders, and community members to ensure accountability and trust. External evaluators are welcome to validate and cross-check the progress made to ensure that the organization maintains the highest standards in program delivery.

Sustainability And Future Plans

MEV-SL aims to achieve financial sustainability through collaborations with both local and international donors. The organization is exploring social enterprise models to diversify its funding streams. Long-term plans include expanding services to additional districts and creating a network of community support groups to strengthen resilience at the local level.
